In a world that needs innovation and well-run companies, design thinking is an approach to problem solving that allows us to combine right-brain creative thinking with left-brain analytical thinking.

Design thinking offers an alternate path. That alternate path leads to more creative solutions, often simple but game-changing ideas, such as suitcases with wheels and easy-to- pour, upside-down ketchup bottles. Most managers are taught a linear problem-solving methodology: Define the problem, identify various solutions, analyze each and choose the best one. Designers aren’t nearly so impatient — or optimistic. They understand that successful invention takes experimentation and that empathy is hard-won.

Embracing design thinking means understanding that the Stakeholder is a real person with real problems, rather than a sales target. Instead of traditional market-research data, design thinkers dig for data that are user-driven and offer a deep understanding of a customer’s unarticulated needs. Design thinking helps reframe questions in a way that expands the boundaries of the search itself.

Unlike traditional thinking, design thinking expects to get it wrong. You experiment and figure out why it works or not. The goal is to fail early to succeed sooner. Actively look for data that proves
the product won’t work. It’s valuable information for saving money and zeroing in on how to make products that do work.

Design Thinking Training from The Painted Sky: the 3D Approach

The Painted Sky, in collaboration with UBQT (a Design Thinking firm), is launching new Programmes to address various Training needs through the Design Thinking methodology. These programmes are exciting, experiential and empowering, helping participants learn and apply the concepts and tools in their daily functions. All programmes are run by Certified Design Thinking experts with industry experience.

At The Painted Sky, we bring over 10 years of experience in running Leadership programmes across the world, many of them leveraging our unique Art-Based methods. And our Art-Based methods – Painting, Theatre, 3D Modelling, Lego Bricks and others – come in to enrich the Design Thinking programmes and bring out new insights and learnings.

Our Design Thinking approach is ideally suited to understanding not just what people do, but why they do what they do. We help people discover unmet emotional, psychological, and functional needs that shape behaviours, setting the stage for breakthroughs and building the foundation for new products, systems, services, and more. The process is structured, interactive, collaborative and fun, and focuses on generating real time solutions that can transform businesses and experiences. Our leverages a Three Stage process that takes our clients on a journey of inspired creativity and innovation. We call it our 3D Approach:

We are bringing Design Thinking through two channels:

  • Training:  At The Painted Sky, our Design Thinking based programmes are helping in Creative Problem Solving to seek new solutions to workplace opportunities and challenges. Enabling Sales teams to develop greater Customer Centricity, to understand needs and deliver better results. Empowering Leaders with greater Insights and Ideas to adapt to and manage Change better in a VUCA world. And helping various functions develop Empathy and Focus to manage Stakeholder issues with greater finesse and sophistication. And we are adding our unique Art-Based processes to augment and galvanise these programme, through Painting, Theatre, 3D Modelling, Lego Bricks and other methods. The final programme design and results are high on impact, deep in insights and full of powerful learnings.
  • Consulting: We have recently formed a new consulting firm, UBQT, (short for ‘ubiquity’), which offers clients Consulting Services in the space of Design Thinking, helping them create User-Centred solutions. We help clients understand through extensive research the needs, interests, fears and desires of Stakeholders, whether Customers or Colleagues, Stakeholders or Students. Then, based on research and insights, we help clients innovate and develop solutions that help address those needs and interests. We work extensively for Learning teams to identify Training needs (something we had briefly discussed when we had met last time), retail chains, real estate companies, technology service providers and others.

And we bring in our signature Arts-Based methods and tools to augment the learnings, explore alternatives and improve impact!

Who is it for

Design Thinking programmes are universal in application, benefitting anyone interested in improving performance by understanding Internal and External Customer Needs first. More specifically, Design Thinking can help business leaders, engineers, IT professionals, sales personnels, HR executives, legal and finance teams become more effective at work. And in everything they do.

Design Thinking Through Live Projects. For Long Term Impact

  • To ensure deeper learning and impact, longer duration interventions to co-create Design Thinking based solutions with participants.
  • The client can identify and pre-define key opportunities and challenges faced in various relevant fields, for participants to work on.
  • Participants work on these predefined areas as Live Projects for 16-24 weeks, applying Design Thinking processes and tools to develop solutions.
  • The Painted Sky will support the participants in this journey in every step, through further training and coaching inputs, as well as through tactical hand-holding in various areas.
  • At the end of the period, participants create Prototypes of the solutions for the audience that can comprise managers, users and external experts, for review and feedback.
  • Through this process, the learnings are reinforced and real time solutioning for key client opportunities and challenges can happen.
